Artwork inspired by folklore, horror, pop-culture and nature.

Blockforest is the pseudonym of Mike Black, a UK-based freelance printmaker, artist and graphic designer.

His work has been used in traditional and digital print as well as for film and publishing.

His work features in the opening prologue sequence to the multi Oscar award winning film - 'Sinners' by Ryan Coogler.

Selected Clients Include: Warner Brothers/Proximity/Perception, VANS, MUBI, and Chelsea Green Publishing.

    Linocut Prologue for Ryan Cooglers 'Sinners'

    Perception worked directly with myself, a linocut artist and illustrator, to explore real textures and materials firsthand, examining how they shifted and came alive under different lighting conditions. The sequence was built entirely digitally, but to preserve the handmade sensibility, I was commissioned to create a series of digital illustrations in my own linocut hand which were then reworked by Perception into the final sequence.
